Tom Leverson, a talented painter in the late 19th century London, has given up on life and art after the death of his beloved wife-to-be. A year of carelessness and heavy drinking has left Tom without motivation to go on. He has a second chance in life and love when he encounters Bill, an insecure, handsome young man with an unknown past and every quality for a bright future. Bill's family doesn't wish to see him anymore and at the moment he doesn't have a place to call his home.
Tom and Bill meet under difficult circumstances and are immediately attracted to each other. Is it meant to be? Will Tom embrace Bill's nature against all norms? And is Tom's dead love completely absent from his life?
