THF Mod Glitch- PLEASE READ For those who were on THF early this morning, you'll know that we had a bit of a scare. Undrockroll and I were adding the new Gold Member accounts to the site (for members who have donated) and in this process there was a PHP glitch in a mod we added that temporarily allowed admin privileges to some members on the site.
We fixed the problem as soon as we found out about the issue, but a few members edited and in one case deleted a chapter from a story that wasn't theirs. We are contacting all of the authors who have been affected by this (three of them) and the members who altered stories that weren't their own. We don't know if stories were deliberately altered or if it was an accident. For safety sake, we immediately locked the accounts of those who altered fics and banned them.
We apologize to all of you for this breach in security here on THF. Please let us know if you see any other issues on the site or concerns.

Whoa I was wondering what was going on when I noticed I had admin options xD Well I'm glad this is sorted :) Hope no ones work was ruined too much o__O

I think it's really, honesty, just MEAN to so something like that. I mean, like, the editing... Depends how it was edited, but the deleting? That's just pure douche-baggery!

I was really confused when I suddenly had admin options! I hit the edit button out of curiousity and then went to my Account Info to try to figure out wth was going on, lol. I can't fathom why people would edit and/or delete other people's stories! It's really disheartening to hear that. It shows a lack of appreciation for the effort people put into fanfic and a lack of respect for all of the authors, mods and members of THF.
I really hope it was an accident and that nothing's permanently "lost".

I'm glad that everything's back to normal now. I got quite a shock earlier when I saw I had admin privileges. I instantly thought that if all users have it then a lot of problems could be caused. Thank God the problem was solved this quickly and not much harm was done. :)
I hope nothing like this ever happens again and if it does, then I'll be sure to contact admins as I did this time! :)

I somewhat freaked out when I read that some of the stories were altered. I checked mine, IM GOOD. But unfortunately, some other people got their work deleted. :[ I just think that's pure disrespect. They shouldn't have deleted other people's stories. Hopefully, it really was an accident.

Are you banning just usernames or their entire IP address?

We locked their accounts and banned their IP address, however we've got into contact with two of the three people who were involved and we believe whatever happened was a whacky accident and not done maliciously, if that makes anyone feel better! :)

Either way, how can it be an accident? /: it asks you are you sure when you click delete, so those people must have been sure they wanted to alter/delete someone's hard work. Just plain disgusting, as Hemo said.

gah that's really wrong if someone would actually delete or alter someone eles's story. BTW i don't know if this is because of that but, why the heck is only half of my chapter showing up?!?!

Your chapter probably got cut off there because of a broken italics tag. The 'less than' and 'greater than' symbols can cause problems sometimes. Just edit your chapter and copy/paste the second half in after you've checked the tags. =)
