xfaaaa update!! I'm dying here!!!

I can see a lot of potential here, from the way you phrase certain things to the sort of wry tone you manage to convey through your writing. It's bland, but it almost seems to be on purpose, and I think the idea is a good one, if not particularly original. I think you sway into telling instead of showing, sometimes, and every writer has issues with that at some point, but some parts of the fic, like these:

Small towns have small minds.

One was shorter then the other, it had been cut in the beginning of the year. (I really liked that attention to detail, and it would make the story awesome if you managed to hold on to it throughout.)

Tom's mother had died four years ago, making his father exactly what he was today. In all his Miller glory. That's the wry tone I was talking about, and while it only comes out occasionally, I find myself grinning a little when it does.

At this point, I'm thinking it needs work, but really, the story just has to find its feet and you could really have something. :) I'd suggest getting the toughest beta you can find - it'll help your story and you, as a writer.
