Nitpicking here, but abortion isn't actually "killing a baby." I know that technically a character said that, and characters can have factually incorrect opinions, but I wouldn't use that phrase unless it was a late-term abortion, when the fetus actually resembles a baby.

Moving on, I really like this story. It's intriguing and, yeah, a little gruesome. I like reading stories that are set in psychiatric hospitals, and this looks like it's going to be better than most. It's always interesting to see what the staff vs. patient dynamic is -- who's the "bad guy"? What do the staff think of the patients? Are the patients demonized as "crazy" or "pathetic" or are they just people who have issues and have to be institutionalized for whatever reason?

I have a suggestion/question, however. What is the layout of the hospital? Where is the children's ward (Avi, adorable though she is, obviously shouldn't be in the adult ward)? How is the adult ward arranged? Are there different sections based on the patient's mental illness (a ward for acute patients and a ward for chronic/long-term patients, perhaps?)? Is there a day room, or is everyone confined to their rooms?

Also, is this supposed to be set in the present day? I know that attitudes like Sean has do exist and might even be common and that hospitals can still be abusive, but I was wondering if the hospital advertised the "All the patients are complete nutters who are in here for life" point of view or not.

You don't have to reply to all of that stuff, but you could put in the story, if you don't plan to already.
