I think this is a really great plot that you have going--very original, in the TH-verse. Most of the stuff I read is Vampires, but zombies were totally unexpected, and appreciated. :)
Now comes the CC: I think something that would help your story a lot is a bit more description. Go a little bit slower and describe the surroundings more. For example: how did Bill feel the first time he killed? Was he disgusted, enraptured? Could he feel the blood running down his body? Putting a little more time into each individual scene can help the reader really get into the story (though I didn't really have a problem getting into yours! ;)
Anyway, I like your story so far, so keep it up! On to the next chapter! ;)

Author's Response: The chemical explosion dear. lol. The chemicals mixed and when everyone breathed them in their body started changing and they're now all zombies. hope that helped. =)
