As far as smut, I think you should let the story tell itself! If your fic!twins decided 'hey, let's have sex' then write it! If you feel the need to omit that and let the story tend more towards fluff, that rocks, too!
You ought not force it, otherwise it'll read as forced. Do what the story wants.
