I seriously got a stomach pain every once in a while. It's terrible what happened to Bill, and you displayed it perfectly!
I think the ending is perfect, and I agree that the recovering-process would have been an entire story by its own. Maybe you want to write it one day? :p
If not, it left just about the right information for my imagination to do it by my self. As I said, the ending is perfect. Quite frankly, the entire story is.
