I can't believe I never read this one, I've been tracking it for years but I knew it would be an emotional ride and sort of kept putting it off. Obviously I couldn't resist any longer and I have no regrets. God though, it made me bawl! I was kind of thinking it would be okay because we knew for quite a long time Bushido wouldn't make it to the end of this story alive but man, that did not soften the blow. I just kept hoping! I can't even imagine how Bill is going to deal with this in the next story.

Oh, I have one question; I was wondering what happens to the girls/women in this world? Obviously quite a few of them are concubines and bear children for the lords/men but is that their only role? Can they marry, too?

I've said what I wanted to from the previous chapter... Well mostly. This chapter hurt in a completely different way. I wanted to know how Bill managed to cope in the hour, day, weeks to follow. I would have wanted to see an ending where Bill could find acceptance that things had come as they did; but must concede to the ending that is yours.
The only question I have is: Did Emerson's quote come before the story or during? I love it as both a summary and in closing.

This story sat on my shelf for a long time. It actually wasn't even /on/ my shelf but I kept coming across it and resisting - even with the 'featured' honour and the reviews, I resisted, simply because it had Bushido. Not that I had anything personal against the guy, but that anything written between Bill and Bushido be of value?
Oh, how wrong I was.
It was Negotiable Affections that lead me down the path, and I am a believer that things happen for a reason. So yes, like Bushido, I regret not having come to this sooner. But am so glad I finally jumped in. I'm reviewing before the end because this chapter in itself takes my breath away. It is epic. I can easily visualise this and I did, over and over again. The writing is... excellent, but you both already know that. There was nothing - nothing that jarred the flow of what I read. Nothing that made me check back for consistency in anything; it was simply perfect.
Now Bushido. I can't say that I've ever enjoyed reading a fic with him in it and so you two have gone and ruined that for me. I loved him and Bill in this. I can't believe I've said it but I do, and so torn for Bill to choose between Bushido and Tom. Oddly, I /can/ imagine how hard it must have been for you to write this chapter. This comes far too late, but I want to congratulate you on a beautiful piece. Not just this chapter but all of it.
