It's strange, how this story keeps changing its nature. Reading the first lines, I thought it was some random fantasy AU that I should just skip (... People coming up with their own universes, terms and customs and forcing pre-made character into them is usually more than a bit awkward.) Then I thought it was a pseudo-18th century story about how arranged marriages are, in fact, the way to go. Then it turned out to be a heartwrenching and bittersweet story about the things you can't have. This chapter was full of fluff, until a new character stepped in. And I predict he's going to bring HEAPS of drama into the story. (Bill's gonna have to smack a bitch!)
One constant thing that I've liked about this story though is the way you give us constant reminders of Bill's position in this very hierarchical system. It feels like a stab in the gut when you remind us that our hero(ine?) is not entitled to have an opinion about anything, not even decisions that change his life drastically or his own body.
Daniel's character seems surprising, since I had, like I mentioned, thought of this universe as some kind of blend between the Middle Ages and the late 18th century/early 19th century, but now... They're starting a feminist (/masculinist/whatever) revolution already? Wow.
Anyway, thank you for creating this universe. It's intriguing.
PS. When the time is right, please tell us how our darling Bubu is doing.

ooooh, so exciting! This story is amazing and has so many twists and turns! I especially liked the atmosphere of the swimming scene.
No Bushido in this, but since I'm warming up to the idea of Bill/Tom, I didnt really mind. I sort of hate you for almost converting me...
I wonder why Tom and Daniel broke up. Details of Tom's dark past are coming up I guess:)
