Earnest as he is, Georg wants to make things clear before anything changes between him and Tom; pity he hasn't still gotten how to interact with a boy like that, who cheats and lies like he breathes and never acknowledges his mistakes. However, Georg's huge, misplaced sense of guilt doesn't surprise me at all, and neither does Tom's going all judgmental. It's so typical of people to blame others for their very same faults!
(well, I agree with Tom only on Georg's poor choice, but that's another story XD).

On the other hand, I sort of understand Tom, although I still think he should connect his brain before lashing out at his co-star who, actually, hasn't even cheated on him. Tom has realized the person he very likely considered as a rock is just human like everybody else, and this shatters his well-hidden need of being the one and only to someone he loves. By his reaction, I think it's clear he loves Georg more than he loves Bill.....

Why Georg has to be so boring and worry about injuries and diseases? Doesn't he know the worst part of the fun of being beaten to pulp is ruining a brand new top? Honestly, If I were him I'd throw his co-star out of the window LOL

At first, Georg's endless patience made me think he's really unaware of what he's getting into; then I realized it's not that. He did need to take a walk on the wild side and he liked it, not for the fight but for a new awareness of himself. He understands there's more to him than wisdom, perfect organization and responsibility. He's always been fine with how he was, but the discovery that his personality is not only that may make him feel more complete and self-assertive.

As for Tom, he's enjoying every bit of Georg's caring for him, in spite of his smartass remarks. It's very, very sweet, especially because it's hidden between the lines.

Oh man, how I love this! Quote: “Georg would have fallen for Tom even if his co-star had been a girl..... That spirit simply inhabits a male form, that is all. ” I've never heard a better explanation of what being bi is about. It's not, as many people think, more opportunities to fuck; it's falling in love with a person without caring about their shell. I know we've already been there, Rina, but reading it in a story is just glorious!

I hope Tom understands that fun and excitement can come from different activities, other than nearly getting killed in a brawl. What about the priceless Gustav's face he's going to see the next morning? That can be fun too XD

People think Bill is clothes-obsessed but I think Tom is just as bad, really. :P Oh, Georg has definitely become more aware of himself and his capabilities after that fight. So, Tom's attitude is nothing but a shield to protect himself from life, considering how life has treated him so far.
Night terrors tell more than anything he could say about his past.

It's normal he gets so wasted – I've met people in the same situation who literally destroyed themselves - but it's very sad too. It's true weed is not dangerous for the body, but I wouldn't be so sure about the mind. I mean, Tom gets that stoned quite often – like he says – and, at this point, it's clear it's a way for him to escape somewhere else, away from his shitty reality of, better, from the scars left by said reality.

The way he meticulously sets his smoking kit, the fact he chooses to anesthetize his mind instead of enjoying Georg's company – his best buddy and a person he trusts – reminds me of people who attend opium dens. Nothing seems better that taking off to dreamland, but this way Tom doesn't do himself any favor. He just misses out precious moments and an opportunity to see that life is not that crappy, once he has a someone like Georg by his side.

I still don't get – but I'm very curious to know – what's wrong with Tom's relationship with Billinda. He talks about long distance relationship, yes, but then he gets inconsistent when he speaks sex and friendship. He says sex doesn't mean that much but their wonderful bond does (she's like the twin he never had; you know I'm sooo jelly – but in a good way – of such kind of relationship). But, hell, if this is true, you surely don't screw around behind your partner's back, so there's must be more to their deteriorating relationship than miles keeping them apart.

Luckily, Georg is very sympathetic and understanding, or probably still too infatuated or in love with Tom. I wouldn't want him to become a sort of a nurse, instead of a strong presence able to put the teenager back on his feet....

Once again, such a complex character is still himself; there's not a single detail that makes him out of character!

Author's Response: Yeah, I've been around people who get wasted like that too and I could never understand what was so great about it. The high always wears off. The person Georg is talking about with schizophrenia is based on my real-life cousin, who changed so much after smoking weed. From such a smart, promising teenager it's really sad what his life became (he's now late 30's and never had a romantic relationship or a job, and has to live at home with his mom to be taken care of). It's awful to see someone go down that path. As for what's wrong with Tom's relationship with Bill - maybe there IS no problem, apart from Tom himself. Maybe he doesn't think himself worthy of such a wonderful woman like Billinda and unconsciously sets out to sabotage himself, so that she will end up dumping him. People who are messed up like Tom do silly things like that. Instead of trying to fix themselves, they just push people away and ruin anything good in their lives. I have known people like that too, as I know you have as well. Oh no, Georg won't become Tom's nurse!! He's sympathetic to Tom now but if the kid keeps getting wasted instead of spending time with him, Georg will soon get sick of that and walk away. He may be an extremely patient man but even that patience has limits...Thank you for your great review and your understanding of the characters!

It's interesting to see how Georg and Tom fill their spare time, now that they don't spend it together. It tells a lot about their nature and the grip they have on reality. In spite of the pain, Georg seems to know what to do with his life, with or without Tom, while the latter looks like he's fooling around with his guitar not to get bored, rather than committing himself to music. Actually, I think that Tom is not able to commit himself to anything at all, not to a sentimental relationship nor to his career (actor? Musician?)

Kudos to Georg for pointing out how things are and for sticking to his decision. I agree with him; it's about time Tom learns to grow out of his brat's attitude of “me, myself and I”. But... how long will Georg's determination last? Not much, imo, and I haven't read the last two chapter, yet. XD

Yes, I wanted to make it clear that Georg, as the older one, has got more of his shit together than Tom does. You're right - Tom has no friggin' clue what he wants to do. Or rather, he wants everything but in reality, can't have it all and he needs to realise this. But you may be surprised by Georg's determination! He can possibly hold out much longer than Tom can XD
