When I was reading the line aboout how he was more mature I had the idea of instead of having his mother just run away (this is Tom im talking about) she could have died in a freak accident. Then when he is more mature he could go to her grave, maybe with Bill and it could be a romantic kind of thing. Or that could be the third time. The first he would go and talk alone say whats been going on and how he was so sorry and doesnt know how to make it up and that kind of thing. That would be like in this chapter (mind you im only at the top and about three sentences in yet so i dont know what happens later on). Then the second time he could go and see Gordon and have a kind of father bonding time and then the next time he goes with Bill and then kind of interduces Bill to his mother and have a talk the three of them.
