Absolutely beautiful. I wish you would find inspiration and time t write little more often:-(
The way you describe pathos of their relationship is so poignant and so full of everything other's stories so often are lacking severely.
To be able to capture a moment that in itself looks dull and non-descriptive and turn it into pure gold, so full of vibrating ache, emotions and longing... you have a gift. Long time ago I got intranced by your "Red burning leaves" and this one is no different.

Beautiful and painful at the same time. I'm so happy to see a new piece from you.

So glad to see you writing & posting!
I read this in an airplane, which is not the best place to concentrate, but somehow I got pulled into this story and you managed to capture the sense of a period piece very well. They just were tra´nsfered to the twenties.
It broke my heart to read the forbidden love and how different things were back then. Sometimes they are even today. In all the sadness in this, this was really beautiful and the first tentative steps... Ah! :)

I can't even tell you how much I've miss your writing. I did a triple take when I saw you'd posted something new and man, this is a doozy. Incredibly, poignantly written. Thank you so much for sharing this with us.
Author's Response: I've got to admit, it was really a strange and spontaneous burst of inspiration. For the first time in a long time, I actually had the time and the motivation to write. I'm so glad that you are still so supporting, even though I've been flaky! Thank you so much. And I'm so very glad you enjoyed this story. :)

Oh my god I'm tearing up. I thought for sure they were going to run away together at the end, after Bill mentioned Martha Grey. This is so sad. Just sad. Tom's an idiot - word's already gotten around town, it's too late to stay, not too late to go. Poor both of them but mostly poor Bill. Really beautiful ending, though.
