I loved this... except, well... Stockholm Syndrome... XD But apart from that, hell yeah I effing LOVED this!! It was sarcastic and sweet and cute and I'm not sure I like how Gordon was portrayed, but it would be how a man of his position at that time would view a wife and step-child, probably, so good job there ^-^ The one thing that was extremely unrealistic to me was Simone at the end - she told her son to forsake his fortune, break a man who had kidnapped him out of prison, and go be that man's lover forevermore. Being gay - simply being attracted to other men, not doing sexual things with them - was illegal in Britain until the late eighteen hundreds (when they decided it was only illegal if you acted on your attraction), so she was not only telling him to go break the law, but to break it in such a way that not his status, his money, nor his powerful step-father could have possibly fixed, because no one would have WANTED to. I dunno, it just seems hugely unrealistic that any mother in that time period would have been okay with her son being gay... Still, this fic was brilliant and adorable, and really, really good ^-^
Author's Response: Yeah, I guess the sort of genre I put this under is what I call historical fantasy, rather than truly historical, it kind of ignores a lot of laws and customs of the time.rnrnDefinitely stockholm syndrome, I kind of always wonder what happens after happily ever after you know. I guess that's why I wouldn't ever write more of this particular story arc. rnrnAs for the homosexuality, as I said before, I really was not going for historical accuracy, I'm aware that here in the England it was punishable by death right up until the mid 1800s (although interestingly apparently not lesbianism...), and not legalised 'til the 1960s (whilst I'm proud of my country for many things, the fact that the law took so long to be overturned is not one of them). I'm actually writing an original fic dealing with those sorts of laws, and what it meant for people like Alan Turing and Oscar Wilde, ad infinitum, but for this story there was also just some focus on the ideas that people like Beau Brummell starting to transcend the ideas of sexuality and the rise of hedonistic tendencies at the time, I wanted to play the idea of Bill's own fashionable hedonistic streak and comfort of home against the powerful vice of falling in love, and I wanted someone else to be the voice of reason behind that, so Simone seemed a perfect fit.rnrnI'm sure Gordon is a lovely lovely person, I just needed a big bad!

Yes, I liked it :3
I don't even remember why I hadn't reviewed sooner for this. I like how you put a whole story in just a one-shot without missing anything, and I had wanted to read a story like this for a while.
Thank you for sharing this~ (:
Author's Response: Thank you! I'm really, really glad you liked it! Glad I could fill a gap. :prnrn:D

This was just as good reading it the second time! I love your writing style and your characterizations. I love the banter between the characters.
And I really love the section that started "Tom didn’t expect the authorities to come. Tom didn’t have a plan." In nine lines, you told an entire story. The way you phrased it was simply beautiful. I loved this story!
Author's Response: Thank you so much for this! And thank you for reading it again it's so nice that you liked it that much. I'm so glad that that section packed a bit of a punch, I tend to waffle so it was great to tighten everything up.

Aw this was good. It's a great storyline too, I think a chaptered story could come of this, or a sequel ;) I loved the parts where Tom and Bill spoke together at night. Well done!
Author's Response: Thank you! I'm glad you think so, it was a story I enjoyed telling, so I can't imagine I'll completely leave it there. I don't know, we'll see... :3

Congratulations on a story well done! This is really fantastic xD Maybe not intentionally, but this has been left open for a sequel...hint hint. Lol.
Author's Response: Hmmm... I've been hearing a lot of that lately. *ponders* Thank you for your review! Glad you liked it! :3
