I HATE WAMPIRE STORIES so then why did I fall so deeply in love with this one.
It reminded me so much of old Anne Rice stories, in terms of the depth of history, and characterizations. It was a refreshing change to see Tom so accepting and willing, not so at odds with himself, what Bill was, and what he became.
The emphasis on relationships really sealed the deal for me. Not so much melodrama and lavish opulence, the things I tend to hate most about vampire stories.

Believe it or not, I had been somewhat aware of your aversion to the genre so I didn't really think you'd dip your toe into this fic. That you did, and then jumped in, loving it, really warms my existentialist heart. rnrnThe one thing this fic HAD to be was modern with a kind of film noir moodiness. For me that was enough atmosphere to play off the relationships without choking on the rest. I'm so glad that came across well for you.rnrnIf only RL Tom were as zen. I really like Bill and GUs's relationship and the way they interact with each other. It's not that common to read about Gustav having an important role and I like the way you're portraying him here.
Author's Response: Gustav's role was originally more secondary until a) I realised that it simply wasn't possible for Gustav NOT to be important and b) he simply came out and asserted his will on my muse and I'm so glad.
