As you know, you had me at peg. I cracked up at the first line and magically, my awful day was forgotten and in the trash, painful ribs notwithstanding but that's something I can deal with. That line above, I choked on my OJ cos I remembered you talking about how Bill's mouth actually horrifies you cos it's so big and well, you had me blowing OJ out my nose for the next minute.
And everything else.. the family.. too little too late. Strikes a chord and yet, I can't feel depressed about it because there is redemption at the end. And it gives me faith even after the shit that went down yesterday. I feel your story more than you can imagine. LoE too of course but strangely beginning to be able to identify with this one too.
And finally the end. Gosh, exactly what a first kiss ought to be like. So sweet in it's imperfection but that's what makes it so perfect. Who needs fireworks?
Though for someone who likes it rough, you can sure write it sweet ;-)
And the title was exceedingly apt! I loved it.

Watching Bill get flustered around Tom's family was so adorable! And seeing Bill care for sick Tom was really sweet! Bill's a sour jawbreaker, I tell you; hard and sour layers on the outside, but considerable time spent sucking and licking leads to a sweet, sugary center. Maybe someday, Tom and Bill can start on a journey to discover Bill's sweet center together. It will be arduous and not without peril, but they'll have each other. And together, they will find love. ^^
I was getting excited when Tom started analyzing why people think Bill attractive. "Yes!" I thought. "Tom is finally looking at Bill as more than just a roomate! Finally they can fall in love."
And then, the kiss! It was sweet in that it was not that sweet. I re-read those last several paragraphs probably five times, letting them wash over me. What a perfect moment! It was consistent with the rest of the story. Bill doesn't taste sweet; just like Bill, like what they ate last, and like cigarettes.
And then your chapter end notes cracked me up, and I lost that sweet sappy mood. Just throw the errant nipples in later. They wouldn't have fit here -- not at all -- but I can imagine them coming into play later.
I love semicolons too. And hyphenated clauses, and ellipses. And quiet sexually ambiguous word choices.
Thanks so much for this story! This is the kind of story I'd save to my computer when it's complete. It's found a place in my heart.

The idea of Tom taxidermied into a bottle opener is both disturbing and fabulous at the same time. Weird. Poor Tom being sick, and Bill not sure how to nurse him better. It was really sweet of Bill to call Nate, and they weren't as snarky as usual.
Tom parents are really awesome, the bike is going to be great for Bill's freedom yet it reduces car time spent together. *wry nod*
Tom's slow realisation that it was just Bill being 'Bill' was sweet, and kisses, gah love it.
More please sir as I need to know what happens. *smooshes my Kitty Kat*
