This is probably one of the best written fanfics I've read in a very very long time. And definitly the best researched. It's clear from every word that you definitly know what you're talking about and writing about. And I'm a WWII geek as well. I saw in previous review-answers that you do not plan to finish this. This saddens me. This is top quility writing. And that is rare to come by. Thank you for sharing at least this much with us readers. I will rec this at my community at Tokiohotelslash.Livejournal.Com. It deserves more readers, finished or not. This story will stay with me for quite long. Thank you.

Author's Response: I don't know if I'll ever update it again. I'd like to say that I will, but I had huge writer's block and now it's been so long, I forgot where I was going with the story.

Author's Response: I'll see how it goes...if I get any more inspiration I probably will update it. I have no problem with you printing it as long as I'm given credit for it.

Author's Response: To be honest, I don't know if I'll ever update this because I had major writer's block and now it's been so long I don't remember where I was going with it.

Whoa this is so suspensful. I think it's Georg that got hit/shot. I wonder how the twins and Miriam are doing.
I'm glad you're back, I've been tracking your story since the first chapter lol. It's nice seeing someone actually do a story based on The Holocaust, because a lot of people are timid to even talk about this event. I cant' wait for the next update :)
Author's Response: Thanks. And I'll never tell who it is, well until the next chapter anyway. I'm sorry I'm taking such long breaks, but my work schedule is all screwy. Luckily, this is my last week since school starts in two weeks. I'll try to update soon though. And I've never been timid, I'm more of the "take it or leave it" kind of person.

I have always been fascinated by the Holocaust. I've done lots of research and projects on it. But I love this story because not only is Tokio Hotel is in it (not that I want them to die or anything *cringe*) but I'm learning things I didn't know about something really interesting to me.
Seriously, I really like this story :)
Author's Response: Thanks, I'm glad you enjoy it. I'm also glad that you enjoy learning new things about it. I've been meaning to post websites at the end, but I've been so short on free time lately, I haven't been able to look any up to post. I hope my lack of continuous updates doesn't run you off. It's been a rather busy summer vacation and I hope to have the next one posted in a couple of weeks.

I love it. It makes me tear up, but it's realistic, at least.
Author's Response: Thanks! And is it a good thing that it's at least realistic?

Oooh this was a good chapter even if it was short, can't wait to read more of it.
Author's Response: Thanks. I plan to get another chapter out quicker than it took for this one, but I make no promises.

I might actually take you up on that offer ;-)
Yeah, it is in Poland, but I don't think you'll need to speak Polish... I hope!
I'm glad I could help :)
Author's Response: Cool.
I know I probably wouldn't need to know Polish, but I feel it's only right to speak the native tongue of a country you're visiting, or at least attempt to speak it. I know that quite a few countries know English as well, but I'm not one of those Americans who thinks everyone in the world should speak English just because I do...Wow...that was longer than intended...
And again, thanks.

Oh, and I wanted to say thank you for all the links you posted! I checked some of those out and they're really quite interesting, especially all the propaganda stuff.
One day I want to go to Auschwitz and see where they did all those horrible things with my own eyes...
Author's Response: You're welcome. There were pictures, but they were too...graphic, I think is the right word. So I'll just post links now, and I meant to with this one, but as you can see, it didn't happen. I plan to post some with the next chapter though. I'm glad you liked them and if you ever want more information just send me a message (with who you are in the title, otherwise it might get deleted) and I'll send you other links I haven't posted here and titles of books and movies to check out. I find this all fascinating and have a folder on my computer with information and pictures.
I would love to go to Auschwitz someday as well, however it would cost a pretty penny, not to mention, I think it is in Poland and I don't know Polish, at all. I tried to learn and couldn't understand it enough to try to prounounce it.

Hey!
I just found this story and I felt really intrigued to read it. Not because I am German and I feel guilty (which I don't), but because I'm really interested in that period of time and I'm always really moved by all the personal stories.
Although there have been other stories about the Holocaust, this one stands out because the twins are Romani and they're being used for medical experiments. I like that you show that the Holocaust was not only about exterminating the Jews. Those other groups are often forgotten!
Also thank you for being so descriptive in chapter 2. I knew about the whole separation process in general and the "showers", but I never got so much detail on it.
I feel so sorry for the whole family :( Weren't the twins totally shocked when their father was shot and aren't they worried about their mother? At least they don't seem to show that but I guess they have other things to worry about and Bill seems to be a very optimistic person ;-)
Oh, and do I have to mention that I hate Mengele sooo much? In this story just as much as in reality. How can anyone do things like that to other people? I just don't understand!
Now all I can do is hope that the twins will survive the march and maybe Georg and Gustav will be the ones who liberate them? I really have no idea where you're going with this, it could be anything^^
Yeah, sorry for this long review, I just felt like I had to say all that^^
I would love another update soon but I can totally understand the delay ;)
Author's Response: The long review is perfectly okay with me, I enjoy reading them. As for not feeling guilty about it all, I never understood why people feel Germans should. It happened in the past. It's kind of like Americans and slavery. I never understood why a certain nationality should feel guilty for something that happened generations ago.
I chose to use Romani because people always use the Jewish people and forget about the Romani, other gypsy groups, homosexuals, and disabled who suffered and perished as well. That is also why I made a point of bringing up the dwarves being taken to Mengele. I feel these groups are often forgotten because they were not as big a number as the Jewish people and I feel they deserve to be represented as well.
I'm glad you liked my descriptions, I was worried I was too descriptive. All the information in the details I got from Holocaust websites, movies (such as The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, which has a side story that is highly improbable, but gave a good generalization of how things were otherwise), and I also drew from pictures I have seen of the camps. So it was a kind of collection of data that I drew upon to write the details.
They were shocked, but I think the shocked emotion got lost when I was writing it all. And I'm glad you brought up their mother because to be completely honest I have been so concentrated on trying to work out the Georg & Gustav parts and how they will meet Bill & Tom that I completely forgot to bring her up. So thank you for bringing that to my attention. And yes, Bill is a very optimistic person, which, admittedly, is difficult for me to write because I'm a pessimist, so if I mess up his optimism sometimes, that's why.
I agree with you on Mengele. I absolutely despise the man, especially since he got away after the war. I don't understand how someone can something like this to another either. The only conclusion I can come up with after doing all the research on the Holocaust that I have, is that Mengele was so into the mindset of the "perfect Aryan race" that he didn't view other races as human.
I'm kind of glad that my story is unpredictable. Like I said, I'm still working on how they officially meet, however you have a good train of thought going (hint hint ^_^)
Like I said above, long reviews are perfectly fine with me. I really like reading them and it gives me something other than "thanks" to reply with. As for an update, I will try but that is all I can promise. I pushed this one out because I realized I hadn't updated since January and the chapter really was not as long as I had wanted. But I am glad and thankful that you understand if it is not updated soon.

Aww poor Tomi is perminantly blind *sob*
Author's Response: Maybe...

I was actually going to write a story about this myself! I am fascinated by mengele, I don't know why, but I love learning about his experiments (as horrible as that sounds), it helps me to try to understand the Nazi mindset. I don't know why I find this period so interesting considering how disgusting and inhuman it is, but either way, I LOVE THE FIC. *glomps*
Author's Response: Lol, thanks. If you do write a story about this topic I would love to read it. And I agree, I've always been fascinated by it and I consider it a morbid curiosity.

Good chapter...I'm reading a book right now called 'The Book Thief' And it takes place right around the time this story does.
Author's Response: Thanks! I haven't heard of that book, but I may look it up.

Oh
I don't really know what to say. I really like this fic, but it feels wrong to say (write) that. This is so horrible and what Hitler & Mengele did was worse than it should be possible to imagine.
And I think its sad that some people cant read warnings and have to read things that they are to sensitive for.
My english isn't good and i appologize for my mistakes :P
Author's Response: Your English seems fine to me (far better than my German is anyway). And thanks, I agree with you and i'm glad you like the story (however wrong it feels).

They...they blinded Tomi...NOOOOOO!!!
Author's Response: I'm sorry!! *hides* Don't kill me! I promise there's only a few more chapters actually in the camp...so not too much more pain!

Well, I am really reading this with mixed emotions.
I am german and this dark past is still haunting our country. Germany will never get over this, what happened 60 years ago...
I find this part of our history very fascinating (as strange at it may sound) but I just canīt figure out how this could happen. How 6 million people could be killed... And everybody knew!
This is why I wanna read on. And I am curious where it takes us...
I would be interested in pictures, though I have seen far too many and its hard to bare.
But anyway! You should keep on writing, because this should never be forgotten! If maybe everybody would have dealt with it that open, Germany would be over it by now... And most of us would not feel guilty anymore, for something that is not our fault.
Author's Response: I'm glad that you are open-minded enough to read this. I've always found it fascinating, and now that I'm in college for history and have been going more in-depth with it, I just get more fascinated. However, pictures will no longer be posted because people apparently complained, if you want, send me your email and I can forward them to you there. And I agree that this should not be forgotten as we learn from the past. As for you all feeling guilty, other countries can also be to blame here, it's not just that it was your nationality, but there's many people here in America who still blame current Germans for this, even though most were yet to be born. I hope that I at no time offend you (and if I do, I promise it is unintentional.) Thanks for reading!

This is exactly my kind of story ^_^
I LOVE it!!
Author's Response: Thank you very much!!
