I don't think being warned ever helps anyone. You either sabotage a good relationship because of worries or you build up in your mind the belief that it can't be that bad. Then if it is bad you are devastated because you really didn't believe it was possible. I actually think that being totally surprised by bad news is less painful then the anticipation of it.
