Like, I do want to stop reading because I know it's going to be so, so hard. But at the same time I know I'm not going to stop reading because I want to know how it ends and what happens and I feel like I need to go on this emotional rollercoaster with Tom and Bill because, well, because their story needs to be told. It just does.
This has played with my emotions before but this chapter pretty much did it. My heart feels like it's breaking into a million little pieces and I have to remind myself that this story isn't real and that this [so hopefully] isn't the twins' fate because it feels that real.

Haha. I adored this chapter. I can just imagine how amusing a race with so many Bills would be. I loved the interactions in this chapter. Tom's Bill is so... haha. The only word I can think of is motherly. I almost died laughing when he asked his younger self if he was calling him old. Huh... that last sentence is really confusing. Though I guess it would be since there are so many Bills.
It's good to know Tom still has racing. :)

This sounds horrible, but that you for a bit of an emotional break after that last chapter. I think we all needed it. Positive things are usually good things to focus on in times of hardship or uncertainty.

Early onset Alzheimers is rare--affecting maybe 5-10 percent of the population.
It's highly unlikely in fact for people under 65...

Sorry you lived through that. I've had friends who had grandparents that lived through Alzheimers and I lived through watching some close friends die of AIDS related dementia back in the 80s and 90s. It's tough no matter who has or had it.
Author's Response: From your previous comment I can understand why the fic might be hitting a nerve at the moment, that was why I really wanted to stress that it is very rare in the chapter note - I don't want any reader in their forties, or any teenage reader with parents in that age group worrying. That said, thank you for the link but I don't need it - as you read in the author's note, this was based on personal experience and that includes the ages that are used for the progression of the disease. It's much too serious for me to fling something out there for the angst factor, or anything else, and the whole fic was ultimately a very cathartic way for me to deal with my loss. I hope you keep reading and do keep your own research in mind the whole time, because it is very rare and tragic when it happens. I hope neither you nor any of your friends are touched by it again at any time.

I'm 43. None of my friends in the same age range, nor myself, have had ANY memory or health problems!!

Oh my God, this has brought tears to my eyes... While I knew it was coming, I had been trying to ignore it. I'm only so used to the signs already. My great oma has dementia and she's 85...it's so terrible. She doesn't recognize anyone, she can't comprehend anything...we can't visit her because she's still in Germany and we tried calling her, but when the nurse tried to press the phone to her ear so she could hear our voices one last time, she started fighting, not knowing what that was against her ear... It's a sad state, to live in an empty shell, your personal mind shattered into fragments that can never be pieced together again.

I cried even if I knew this was coming. The clues were there and still...I cried.
You wanted me to keep you updated on my tour too, so I'm in Esch sur Alzette right now, at my hotel for a while for the email but n°77 in ine so I hope to get a 1st row on Monday night. I saw the boys 3 times earlier today and they were SO great and looking so happy, especially Bill. I'm glad!

That was so sad. I feel so bad for both of them. For Bill to have known about what was going to happen to Tom since he was nineteen must have been so tough. I really do like this story and I'm sticking to it till the end.
