No, it wasn't Swan Lake...it was probably a Russian fairy tale. It might not have even been a bird, though I thought it was. It might be Hans Christian Andersen, too. Not sure. *shrugs*

I seem to remember a fairy tale kinda like this, only the guy did something or other and the woman flew away and never came back.
Author's Response: Glad you liked it! Maybe you're thinking of Swan Lake (or the animated The Swan Princess)? It's a similar concept, and I'm sure the Decemberists based their song on that initial idea.

Oh, wow. That was so beautiful. You captured the essence of the woods and lonliness so incredibly well, I'm positively blown away. The crane itself has such human-like features, the eyes, especially. This piece was incredible. Congratualations.
