I don't think you mentioned exactly how Tom's lifespan got elongated...only that Gordon taught him everything he knew. I mean, Tom never became a full data keeper, did he?
Also, when you talked about Jorg dying...you said 'when she died', FYI.

I REALLY hope I did, because it's 4 am here and I'm pretty tirted (New year's eve :-D). Anyways, I enjoyed as usual.
Few notes and thoughts of this chapter:
- Tom's personality. If I remember correctly, you said at one point that Tom is not going to be all good and would give confused emotions? I guess you were rught, but all of this actually is making him very human. To be so badly haunted by his past, I think it would have been unrealistic if he would be all reasonable and calm. In this case his character needs confused overloads. I don't see him bad. I can't. The way he communicates with Bill in the end shows us his inner conflicts and painful past. And that HE is (or feels that he is?) responsible. Isn't that a terrible burden to carry?
- Bill's character. I really wonder how he feels for a thought of being a clone... or basically a clone, because I think it's impossible to understand that personally if his experiences, his "memories" are like that. I'm curious to find out more of it, of his inner self. I can't explain, what I'm missing here, because I don't even know it myself. Also his memories(in italics?) were interesting. Disjointed, but maybe because of that, interesting glimpses.
- Scifi-mood. I had difficulties to turn myself back into scifi-mood after a long break, but I noticed that I enjoy very much post-apocalyptic tales and environments half-postmodern technical and dirty, rusty, MadMax-typely mixed. I like them much more than just purely hi-tech worlds. And I can't really imagine compound or Tom into that kind of environment.
- Language and vocabulary. I noticed that you use very rich and occasionally not so usual vocabulary to describe things. I don't know how it looks to you, whose mother tongue is English, but I noticed it. I like it. It's difficult for me, because sometimes it's truly a challenge for me to understand all the thinhgs happening because the choises you've made with words. But because it's not easy, I think it must be rich in a good way. Use the whole variety of language like this! It's exhausting to read, but so what? Good text has to be sometimes :)
All together once again interesting and yet challenging chapter in many ways. But I like challengies! So keep chapters coming up and have a very happy new year 2010! :)

TOM, you are one lucky bastard that I DON'T want to hurt you because you somehow managed to redeem yourself there and not be MUCH of an asshole.
Bill's memories intrigue me because it shows the hell he went through those last moments before everything went to hell. But yet he was mouthing the words to Tom.
Anyway, can't wait to read more because this story is addictive as much as it's so damn angsty! I want to get all the answers, but then that will bring more questions and the end that I wish would come and yet not.

I think the choise to cut out things was a good one. After all this chapter contains lots of information and explanations so it could have been too stuffed, too full? I don't know, what kind of information you cut out, so I can't say about that, but this was nice. I think it was for the best. Only thing the extra information could have done, would have been lightening this chapter, but I'm not sure.. After all, this was very full, but not in a bad way.
This chapter was in general for the straightening things out. Interesting points were made and I liked the way Saki told Bill things. It made things understandable. Bill's role was quite small actually here and it was a bit surprising for me. I'm curious to see, how Bill and Tom are going to react to each other in a future.
Scifi-language was okay. I couldn't help but comparing some things to Remnants-fic here. Not like these are even close to each other, but they both have somehow same type of environment in my head. The dusty, apocalyptic, abandened world. Also many movies are crossing to my mind now. Minority report as an example. Interesting, interesting...
Author's Response: *nodnod* I agree. My beta and I had been discussing it for days, but finally settled on it, and I'm glad I did, cause what I cut out would have made things between Bill and Tom (later on) very difficult, and it already is, at the moment.
Also, I'm glad that you liked the way the chapter went, I had this clear cut way of how I wanted to chapters mapped out, and I knew, beyond a doubt that I wanted Saki to explain things. He's a wise character, and he'll become the person that Bill goes to when he needs to understand something.
and yea...small role. I set out with this story, aiming to switch povs a bit, because while it's mostly about Bill being kidnapped and what happens afterwards, it still interlaces the lives of so many others.
and hahaha I feel blessed for you to compare it to Remnants. That story is a favorite of mine, and I was about halfway done with this when I started reading that, and went WOW that's so much better than mine! xD And LOL, dude I just saw that movie a couple of months ago. now I want to go and see if I can rent it, cause I only saw it once and I had kids around me, so I didn't actually see much.

Your style keeps strong here. It fits to the theme perfectly. I can't wait to meet Tom here! Him meeting Bill must be very intense experience. I think I just might fall in love with Tom here :D. It's also ínteresting to see, how many different pounds and levels there are between characters.
I'm super tired, so this is short one. I have to leave Love again until tomorrow, because I can't keep my eyes open. God, I'm so many days behind in fics here! :D

I'm glad you like the style though. I haven't written in such a condensed, structured style in a while. It's nice and at the same time difficult. And dude, Tom, the meeting, everything about the next chapter is intense LOL. And awww, you might just, he's an asshole (as usual), but he's got his reasons, so yea lol. And I'm glad you see the different pounds and levels, I think that because this was written in novel form, I was able to make the characters so complex.
and awww bb, go to bed, you can go read that fic tomorrow. just REST. lol. and yes! I got it already, am putting aside some time to read it tomorrow, since today was spent primarily angsting -.-
