Author's Response: The issue there is that youko are very secretive about revealing anything about youko to humans. So, that's not something that would be readily available. You're right, though, Simone needs to learn more!

Why does Simone think showing affection is dangerous? Is she the same Simone who made love to her husband outdoors in Year 1, chapter 1? Could she be the same woman who was so very sensitive to the twin's needs on the caravan trail to Leroux? I thought she was the free thinking artistic type. Gordon needs to bang some sense back into her. Thank the gods that he is so tuned in to what everyone needs in this family.
Author's Response: Well, this is incestuous affection we're talking about - not to mention these are youko, who are already regarded with suspicion by a lot of humans. ;_; She seriously is just trying to be protective of them, but I think Gordon has a better idea of how they ought to do that...it's just they don't see eye to eye.

I'm disappointed in Simone. She is an awesome character in many ways but she does not seem as warm and supportive as the kits need her to be. She needs to remember that they are in a world that is not their own and the only thing they have of their previous life is each other. I think no matter what happens they need her unconditional love and support. I don't think she can even begin to understand how they must feel. I think they need more emotional support than they are getting from her. Sorry. I hope this doesn't sound too critical. I'm just very involved in the story.
Author's Response: The problem between Simone and the readers, I think, is that she's serving a function in their lives as important as being their surrogate mother - she's imposing the human standards by which they'd be required to live by, if they're going to live openly in human society. It's especially difficult because there aren't any youko of Simone's acquaintance who can let her know what is, or isn't, normal for youko kits. It's not too critical at all! It's one of the unfortunate conflicts of the story.

Author's Response: It's easy! ;D Just get a big white board, write out a row for everyone's names, write columns for all of the chores that need to be done, then in the square where the name and the chore meet, write "daily" or "weekly" for that person/chore combo. :D
