I'm very much intrigued by the summery of your story, however, after I read the first chapter I came across something that bugged me horribly. The fact that Tom went limp as the truck came closer. Grant it it is true that that is why drunk drivers generally survive most accidents is because their bodies ARE limp, for a conscious and sober person it is IMPOSSIBLE to just decide to remain limp. It is an involuntary reaction to tense up and brace for impact. To make it more believable that Tom was limp he would have to be drunk out of his mind.

Fantastic story. Or should I say, beginning? Because I have a feeling this is just the start, with more interesting things to come. Like teaching Bill AND Tom to look deeper then to just surface. ;-) I like that idea, and your take on it. I hope you will continue this.
