I had a friend in a coma for 3 months. He told me it was terrifying. He felt like he was in this inky darkness that was like black cotton. He said he could hear and feel everything but couldn't respond. He said he'd scream, hoping someone would hear him him but no one did.
He said it was true that his family and us friends playng music he loved, reading to him and talking to him helped him keep control of reality and helped him fight his way back to consciousness.
He said that as he came closer to consciousness, the darkness lightened up to a series of grays until he saw the light behind his eyelids and he could open his eyes.
He also said that he had to remember how to move and talk and eat and etc. He said he felt like a baby and that he had to learn how to make his body respond to his thoughts and muscle impulses again.
He said some other stuff that makes me cry when I think about it but that's just one person's experence. He was lucky. He could have been paralyzed or permanently disabled.
Author's Response: I'm so sorry :( I really hope that what I wrote in By Myself didn't offend you in any way, since I made it all up. Thank you very much for describing your friend's mental state for me, though, because I went back and rewrote a bit of the end of the chapter according to what you've told me here. It's not a big change, but I added that Bill screamed and heard people talking, but also heard that no one reacted to his screams. I don't know how accurate the pain he felt is, but I'm guessing everyone is different, so it's possible that you can feel pain while comatose...I'm not positive, though. And thank you very much for describing the process of waking up, since I'll have to write about that and I wouldn't know what to write otherwise. Thank you so much for your help, and again, I am so sorry if this chapter was offensive in any way, since I know how much it hurts to have someone write about something you've personally experienced, and totally screw up the way it occurred. Please let me know if you have any other suggestions, and once again I'm sorry :(

That's so sad. It's a shame that things like this go on in schools across the world. The results end up in kids snapping and shootig up the school or being so injured that they end up dead, or mentally or physically disabled. If only they'd wake up and see the damage they do to their victim...
Author's Response: Yes, it definitely is a shame...That is, unfortunately, how it usually ends. It's awful, but true...in almost any school, no less. I hate it when people are made fun of or beaten for being the way they are. It's terrible, and no one ever stops to think about what they're doing to the person, until it's much too late. I want Tom to "wake up", though, and see that what he has done is NOT okay in any way, shape or form and that he has a LOT of apologizing to do before Bill can even consider forgiving him.
