I'm at a loss for words on how to describe how this story pulled me in and made me feel. Everything Nightingale said is so true, this is a fantastic AU and the historical bits are just phenomenal - the fascination of indoor plumbing, the common lack of hygiene give people body odor (which was handled beautifully btw), the differentiation between the classes the use of arsenic as a beauty supplement - perfect. I'm truly amazed and could have read this story for 25 more chapters, easily. Very nicely done. I've read several of your other works and just now realize it's the same person - you do very nice work. I usually don't read a lot of AU, and I am always concerned when I see Bill as a prostitute or something similar, but his character is completely redeeming in this story. He is completely doing what he has to do to survive. Very, very nice. I look forward to a sequel!

This was such a beautiful story and again I marvel at your ability to create such original universes that it takes the breath away and one can't stop reading until reaching the very end of the story. And wanting more, of course, because the universe is so addictive and so precious.
I was cautious at first when started reading this because I wasn't sure what I would find here - what kind of a person Bill would be portrayed in this story. But I'm glad I had read that because this was magnificent.
I loved Tom's character and the way the particular period of history was shown through his sight, his living and thinking. And Bill....he's just precious, and the fact of his initial work didn't spoil my impression of him at all because he is so strong and, what makes him more precious - so naive at some things, like childish sweets or genuine appreciation. Even though, I'm rather sceptic when it comes to the lack of any possible STD with Bill because during those times it was especially bad. But yeah anyway, a story is a story and anything is possible :) Funny how Tom, being so chaste, even managed to go so far with Bill, but then again - who wouldn't? And if it's real love between them there, it's just right. Not to mention that it must be quite handy that Bill is experienced XD
I loved the purity of this story, no matter what dirty and lowlife background it showed, the interactions between Tom and Bill, their characters and the ending were completely endearing and heartwarming.

Awww... Bill is so cute. "Ain't no way else t'pay ye back fer what you done." I think that was my favorite line. I'm glad Tom said "no" to Bill's offer, though... there will be time for that later, right? hehe... hope so, anyway :)

I can't even tell you how long I've had this story open in a tab to read. Now I've just spent the last few hours and stayed up way too late reading this and I don't regret a minute or how tired I'll be tomorrow.
This was just amazing. Amazing. Such a classic love story with as unlikely a couple as could be, and I so fell in love with every word of it.
The details are vivid, right down to Bill's accent. I think accents must be murder to write and do well but I think you totally nailed it here. I could actually hear him in my head (hello, Eliza Dolittle!) and the story would not have been the same without out it.
Wonderful, wonderful job. This is going right into my favorites and I'm rec'ing it every chance I get. :D
