Wow. My mom saved my sister and I from a bunch of shit, too. In her family, men could do no wrong, and women were there for all the wrong things. In fact, my own father was scum. He would have coffee with prostitutes before he'd give my mom money for diapers for my sister. What a pig.
My mom raised us on her own, and now, because of her, I know what to do RIGHT when the time comes for it.
Abuse is a horrid thing, but when will the abused begin to stand up for themselves? They have to learn that they're NOT doormats, and that they don't DESERVE what happens to them. They need to be fixed after so much, or made unbreakable from the beginning.
You are 100% right. A smack from a celebrity is only news BECAUSE he's a celebrity. Us "normal" people don't get our messages across easy enough. But I agree with you.
It really does need to stop.
Author's Response: Thank you so much for reading/reviewing. I was too young to remember a whole lot about my father, but I remember the hits well enough. Even now, if someone gets too angry and slams stuff, I freak out. My dad was scum too, but thankfully my step dad is a good guy. I agree, more people that have suffered need to stand up for themselves, especially if they have children there they need to protect. But it's still hard. No matter how many times you try to tell them they deserve better, they can't believe it. I really admire the people, like my mom and yours, who stand up and say enough.

I think you're absolutely right.
The amount of attention the media is giving this little incident is absurd. It was one punch in the face to a girl who obviously deserved it.
All the men and woman who actually suffer from real abuse are rarely heard.
And I also wonder, if it wasn't a girl but a boy who Tom hit, would there have been as much fuss about it?
Author's Response: I agree fully. I truly believe if it was a boy, there would be no problem. It's so great to hear from someone who actually agrees with me. I just wish more people did as Gusti did in the end and just picked up the phone. One phone call can change so much. Thank you SO much for the feedback
