Beautifully descriptive, so simple but very melancholy, and yet somehow hopeful as well. This seems like such a very sad AU, with the twins disjointed but still wanting togetherness, not quite connecting but still giving it a go, making it there more or less in th end. I like the feelings that come through in the last part. It's simply lovely.

Now here I was expecting some non-con or heavily persuasive dub-con and Emperor Tom decides to show some mercy! =D Surprising, but good for the Emperor in the long run. I'm really feeling for Tom by the end of this part, poor baby. Did the Emperor ever call any of the other doppels 'little bird?'

I love the way you continue universe-building even in the midst of plotty bits. In a few simple sentences, it's very clear that attitudes toward homosexuality are very different in Basai. I like how we've already got the clash of cultural differences going on between Tom and the Emperor; neither can clearly understand the other's position, even when (for Tom) there's so much at stake.

Author's Response: E will make the threat, but he\'s really not one to carry out on it. After all, if he lets em go, who\'s going to know? They\'re dead within a day or two anyway. It\'s not like it\'s going to get out that he\'s gone soft or something.

Poor, dear Tom. He\'s the first little bird. It\'s interesting how something that started out fairly derisive ended up a pet name, isn\'t it?

There\'s really just so MUCH universe here to TRY to get out, you have to get it in where you can. And, yes, the attitudes ARE very different. In Basai, it just makes good sense to enjoy the company of someone who\'s NOT going to leave you with a whole pack of kids, ESPECIALLY when you\'re the Emperor. Forgoing it, at least for E, is just odd.

I love the different hairstyles, or rather hair bands, for the Emperor. It's vaguely Celtic but very much original, and such a cool idea. Ornamental, but also different ways of signifying status. I also enjoyed how E's cunning came through with the scene in the throne room.

I love seeing flashes of Tom's impish humor showing in E's personality. It really does make one realize they're the same person, though from wildly different universes.

It's interesting to see the first softening in Tom towards E's advances in this part. You may not be into guys, Tom, but you're definitely into yourself. ;D C'mon, everyone's a little bit bi!

Really liked the role of music in this chapter.

I liked the idea of the little bands. They keep that mass of hair from falling in his face all the time, and serve as a perfectly good crown. Regular crowns just wouldn\'t keep his hair back, after all.

THAT is just what I was going for. They\'re the same person behind everything.

Tom may not be into guys, but he certainly is a little into himself. After all, he\'s such a charmer, it would be mad to think that even HE could resist his own wiles. ;)

This chapter really did have a lot of music to it, didn\'t it? It\'s bringing them a little close, one note at a time.

I loved the Emperor manipulating Tom into coming to the party. Bullying, really. Tom took it with very good grace, all things considered. ;D And what a lovely stolen kiss. Keep trying to fight the hook, Tom! Purple was a very nice choice for his tunic - halfway between E's blue and Bill's red. And quite royal.

The sudden flurry of kissing on Tom's part was a little unexpected but very, very nice, and it was easy to see where he'd been building up to it, really. And here we begin to see how truly chivalrous the Emperor is, putting Tom off until he's no longer intoxicated to make sure he still wants the same. So much love. E is really letting himself begin to care for Tom, and it shows.

Author's Response: But Tom HAD to go. It was all planned. ;) And purple seemed like a nice choice.

Horny, drunken Tom. Once you slaughter his inhibitions, he wants it, it\'s just his rational mind that keeps jumping in the way and screaming that it\'s a bad idea. Get that out of the way and one kinda has to think that it might be interesting to do yourself. At least a little.

The Emperor is such a good boy, really. He wants, but he wants to be properly wanted, too, so no taking advantage.

Beautiful intimacy in the first scene, with the continued cuddling and togetherness and again music weaving itself through their relationship. And Carlotta is such a sweetheart, really. A strong and empathetic support for both Toms.

When Carlotta came to say everything was ready, I was shocked too! Poor Toms, such a short time and both of them thinking they'll never see each other again. Very melancholy, and I think that's where Tom began to realize he really did have feelings for the Emperor. Just as E said he'd never understand how important Bill was to him until he was gone, so it goes for these two as well, I think.

Bill and Tom reunited was lovely, of course. I enjoyed how determined Bill was not to let Tom out of his sight. :) And Tom's brief sadness at the prospect of not going back.

I think I've said this already, but this is beautifully imaginative! A definite pleasure to read.

Author's Response: They would start enjoying each other\'s company just in time for it to end, wouldn\'t they? Suddenly they want together time, and they just can\'t have it. Tom is left wondering what could have had given more time.

In the end BOTH twins needed that cuddle. Bill to make sure that Tom was there, and Tom because he\'s got that little bit of pining in him now.

This story is perfect to me. I've read it several times and each time I enjoy it just as much as the first.
