Woah that was so fucked up. That was such a sudden plottwist. And shit, then his dad and the lady from upstairs. B must feel so shitty but wow i'm curious to see where he's gonna run now with Francis.

Hot damn you write so well. I want to be disapproving of it cos of the case but they are so good together, i just love it. Aw that line about Tom forgetting his existence the moment his phone rang, made me sad for Bill cos he's gonna feel used, even if i know Tom is gonna come running back for more soon. Damn this is so good.

Well i have to say i was surprised about that happening so fast and no hesitation from Tom despite his job and specifically the case he is working on for Bill... seems like he was completely brainwashed by Bill's entice. Let's see how this will affect their case together.

Okay that was unexpected but i didnt hate it. Kinda getting a deeper view of B's character and wondering how he got to this point. Sounds like his home life isn't too good and that his mother is absent, so i guess there's gonna be a reason for everything and why he is how he is. Eager to read on..

Damn that was unexpected with B's little voyeur sesh but that was funny and i'm kinda intrigued now by his sex addiction.

It's been quite a while since I've read These Nights!
So, is Eddie going to be Billy's new lover!? 0O0
He and Billy go way back before Tom came, and there's a possibility that they might be in the future, IMO.
I guess it took a lot for Eddie to see Billy has been with a sophisticated, good-looking lawyer.
Good luck for Edgar!

Author's Response:

Haha, I have no plans for Billy and Edgar to get together for now, but it's a nice thought to entertain!

As always, thank you so much for your love and support, babe. <3

Bill acceptance is heartbreaking.
I'm sorry but Tom's story made me laugh.

Author's Response: I was half-crying and half-giggling myself. Mind you, the "Show Me" game has actually happened to me! Well, except that I didn't have a dick..

Hello ! Back here to see if there's a new chapter. Will you update soon ? I really like this fic and I hope so :)

Author's Response: Hi there! Wow, this is freaky... I was just re-reading this fic last night, trying to decide how to begin the next chapter. Your timing is brilliant. :D I will update this REALLY soon, promise!

Thank you for updating. You have nothing to worry about with your writing, you have a real talent for telling a story.

Author's Response: Oh, thank you so much for saying that. I find myself worrying and mulling over words that I never used to think twice about. Self-censorship is also so much more common now, sigh. So your words truly brightened my day. Glad you liked it!

Waouh ! Horror ! I read your review and I can't believe it. Well I must tell you : I'm french, therefore english reading is sometimes a bit uneasy. I knew what the word doll meant but I thought you used it in a figurative sense, sort of. Because I just couldn't realise that Francis was a real doll.
I need time to realize! Poor Bill. And really, Tom knew about that and he didn't say anything... I understand better why he says that he can't do anything with Bill because it would be like abusing him when he's so fragile. It's not only about love and sex. Bill has a trauma disorder.
How will they get over that ?
Bill really needs help.
Thanks for answering each review. Authors don't always do it and it's great to read you back :)

Author's Response:

I'm so glad you're enjoying this story, dear. <3

Thank you for giving me your feedback! I really enjoy reading what you think about the fic so far. Hopefully I'll be able to add to the fic soon enough. Thanks again :D

Hello,
I'm back and happy to read this new chapter :)
'How disgusting is this Joe' is the first thing that comes in my mind after reading !
But before talking about him, a question : why does it begin with Tom's memories of his past ? I can't find the link with the story. Peharps the feeling of loosing his family when they divorced makes him want to find more about Bill's, to understand what his life really is, or something like that.
For his baby brother now. Billy was afraid of what Joe was going to tell Tom because he was sure of Francis being his own son, isn't it ? But in a way, he is the only connection with his mother now and it may hurt him to find out that the baby is not theirs. Why does he want to tell him the truth now. Does he want to hurt him by showing him that there is nothing left from his past life ? Or am I bad-mouthing ? But in this case why would Tom say that he tried to help ? It's so confusing. I really love the way you turn every situation upside down.
Poor Billy ! How is he going to feel like ? And will he still have confidence in Tom, realising that he knows much more about him than he says.
And of course a last question is to be asked : who is Francis ?
Thanks again for this chapter and I hope you update soon, because it's a very nice story.
kisses - kty

Author's Response:

Hi there! Nice to see you on here again. Thank you once more for sticking with this story -- I know it must be difficult, what with me being absent from THF for long lapses of time. :)

I wrote a little about Tom's history here for the requests I've received for some sort of backstory to Tom Carter, but mostly I wrote it because Tom realized very early on that life is so fragile, that things really aren't what they seem sometimes, and I felt that that kind of reflected what Billy is going through. So in essence, you were right! Tom's history definitely increased his (morbid?) interest in Billy's life, although it isn't the only reason.

Joe is many things, but he certainly is not kind or concerned (as you probably saw in this chapter). He wanted to hurt Billy, yes; but in a way he also helped him, don't you think so? Joe finally tells him that Francis is a doll all along because he finally sees that even with seemingly professional people surrounding his son, no one dared to tell Billy the truth. So the burden fell back upon ol' Joe. He is reluctant and angry because of this fact, and that's why he was less than understanding when Billy struggled to come to terms with the truth. Tom tried to help in the sense that he knew how deep this "bond" between Billy and Francis was, and he tried to comply with the psychiatrist's advice to avoid speaking about this matter because Billy was in a very difficult place in his life -- but it was hard to avoid such a glaring thorn in their sides, so ultimately Tom had to wake him up.

Francis, the real Francis, was Billy's younger brother/son, who died in utero/during the pregnancy. He was stillborn, which also caused the mother's complicated delivery that led to her death. To compensate for the missing holes in his life and to justify the loss of his mother/lover, Billy "adopts" a doll that was one of the many presents given by relatives and friends to celebrate the birth of the baby, and named him Francis. He had been carrying the doll around for quite a while, as you have read. If you'd like to know more about Francis the doll, you could scroll down to a reply I had sent to an earlier review. I would probably write more about this in the subsequent chapters. :)

Sorry for any typos! Thank you for the support, hugs!

I wonder what makes him become the man that he is now.
Was it because of his parents' marriage life?
That having a life with a partner with the opposite sex is 'messy' and 'troublesome'?
And having someone with the same gender is better because they could understand you better?

Well, I was shocked when I found out that Francis was never alive.
He used the doll as a reminder of his mother...or his reunion with his mother.
And he would never want to know 'the truth' because then he would have to wake up from his dream and face the reality and his 'brother', since 'Francis' is the only one he ever love so much, other than his mother.
it was really sad, though...

Author's Response:

I wouldn't say that his parents made him turn against the opposite sex, because that would be wrong: homosexual relationships (or any other form of relationships) are not necessarily trouble-free.

Thanks for your review, and I'm so happy you enjoyed it <3

OMG, this is insane. So he never lived, and Billy was what? Stolen someone's kid? This is crazy, and I like it. This make this story, even more attractive. Please don't leave me wait to long with next part, put something soon. And long.

Author's Response: Billy found a replacement for Francis in a child-sized doll. :) Thanks for reviewing! I'll definitely work on it <3

I'm trying to find a hint that Francis was a doll all along. Did you hint at it before?

Author's Response:

Hey there! Thanks for your review. :)

In retrospect, this was supposed to come as a surprise to both Billy and the reader, but I believe there has been hints scattered throughout the fic. Note, they weren't supremely obvious ones, especially because this bombshell wasn't dropped yet. But now that it has, it should put some things into context.

1. Joe Lawrence no longer saw daylight, and neither did his "son". It would understandably be read in the context of the child being alive, but it was just Joe and the doll.

2. Only Billy could hear Francis' cries. In the third chapter, Francis was crying as loud as he could, and could even be heard outside the apartment. With such a feisty complaining neighbor upstairs (who complained about the TV), how come there has been no mention of the child's crying if the father had been so negligent -- assuming this had happened a few times already, of course, since Billy is no stranger to waking up in other people's beds (Chapter 6, I believe), and the father is a practicing alcoholic.

3. Not much of a hint, but it deserves to be mentioned for itself, if only as a refresher and to give a sense of context: Francis was sleeping beside Joe and Angeline as they had intercourse in the one bedroom they owned without even slightly stirring from his slumber.

4. Tom's mother, who is already peculiar in her own way, is suddenly extremely weird in Chapter 9, where she had watched Billy and Francis with suspicion, then alleged that Billy had lost his way in the religious sense (she compared him to Satan, who was beautiful but undeniably evil), and warned Tom to be careful.

5. During their first argument (Chapter 11), only Billy saw and heard the child cry. Tom had made no comment about the child banging a spoon against the table or the sobbing during the argument.

6. No one has ever held, heard, fed or been in any way affected by Francis -- only Billy.

Again, I have to stress that there wasn't meant to be hints in the first place because -- MAJOR SPOILER WARNING -- these chapters were written by both Tom and Billy by orders of Dr. Harold to assess their emotions over the things they had experienced, and because Billy wasn't aware of Francis' being a doll prior to this chapter, it was supposed to be a secret to the readers as well. It all depends on how you see it: the hints above are only hints when put into context.

Thanks for your question! I adore the readers who inquire about the story; it goes on to show that they're actually interested in the fic. If there are any mistakes above, technical or other, please excuse me! I'm typing away on my iPhone and it is a laborious task! Hugs. :D
